SAND TAPESTRY

The technique of Sand Tapestry was pioneered in 1976 by world renown glass artist David Alcala. Each original design is created by weaving layers of colored sand poured between two upright panes of glass. Fine details are achieved using a wire rod to move and sculpt the tiny grains of sand. Today David's son Markus keeps the sand art tradition alive by creating beautifully intricate and colorful landscapes inspired by his travels.
